Blessed Fr. McGivney Feast Day

August 13, 2023

Having been raised to the honors of the altar, Blessed Michael McGivney has an annual feast day of Aug. 13, the day between his birthday (in 1852) and the day he passed into eternal life (in 1890).

Please plan to participate in holy Mass on Aug. 13, even if Blessed Michael’s feast day is not celebrated in your locality. The Mass was truly “the source and summit” of Father McGivney’s life, and there is no better way to honor our founder than by entering into the mystery of faith in which his entire life and ministry was rooted. While at Mass, let us ask Father McGivney’s intercession that God raise up an abundance of priestly vocations — priests who will follow our founder’s lead in their life and ministry.

Founder's Day

March 29, 2024

The Knights of Columbus Founders Day is observed every March 29. This marks the day on which Father Michael J. McGivney met with other Catholics who shared similar beliefs to form the order’s first council in the basement of St. Mary’s Church in New Haven, Connecticut. The order has close to two million members in over 16,000 councils and was created in response to hardships suffered by the poor, Catholics, and Irish immigrants. The Knights promote the Catholic view on certain controversial public policy issues, such as opposition to same-sex marriage and abortion.
